About Us

 The Mill Bay Garden Club was founded in 1985 with an original 6 keen gardeners.  One of the original members, Mary Gale,  who was very active in our Club and served as Historian, passed away in 2022. We were certainly grateful to Mary for all her contributions to the club over the years.

Today the Club has an enthusiastic group of members and has resumed activities and in person meetings after cancelling many meetings due to Covid.  Primarily we serve the communities of Mill Bay, Cobble Hill, Shawnigan Lake and Cowichan Bay but we also have members from Duncan.

We gather together at meetings and special events and activities to learn and to share. Some of us are new to gardening but there are experts of all kinds ready with helpful ideas and advice.

We are a friendly club and our focus is on gardening education. In addition to our monthly meetings held from September through May, we provide additional and periodic workshops in member gardens, tours of member gardens, an annual Holiday Celebration in December and a Potluck Picnic held in conjunction with our Annual General Meeting every June.

We operate a very successful plant sale every year at our annual Flower and Garden Show.  The show is an ambitious undertaking with a huge flower show, Silent Auction, garden vendor area and Strawberry Tea and luncheon.

We are as varied as the plants in our gardens but we have much in common. WE LOVE OUR GARDENS. 

 Meetings take place at the Mill Bay Community League Hall on the 4th Tuesday of each month (except in July and August). (Located on Shawnigan - Mill Bay Rd. which shares the parking lot of Kerry Park Recreation Centre).

We welcome people of all gardening abilities  and knowledge. The doors open at 6:30 pm to provide you with the opportunity to check out our Library and the Plant Sale Table, to take part or just view the floral arrangements on the Brag Table, to buy garden raffle tickets and to chat with other members.

Meetings begin at 7:00 pm and will generally have a short business portion followed by a garden “show and tell”, plant sales, question and answer sessions and guest speaker in the second half of the meeting.  We have a wide range of topics and experts who help us get the most out of our growing season. Some of the more recent topics include: Weeds, Native Plants in an Urban Setting, Building Healthy Soil, Orchids, Rhododendrons in China, and Climate Change for Gardeners.

You are welcome to attend a meeting as our guest. Our Membership Chair will be pleased to meet you and introduce you to the group. Membership forms are available at the desk as you enter the hall. Membership dues are currently $20.00 per person annually.

Payment can be made in cash during the meetings or you can send your name and address along with a cheque made payable to Mill Bay Garden Club
