Speakers: T'uwahwiye' Philomena Williams and Genevieve Singleton 

Topic: Cowichan Flowers

The talk will be called Qwu'utsun Sp'e'luq'um, Cowichan Flowers, sharing our favourite wild flowers, their uses and stories.

Cowichan elder, T'uwahwiye' Philomena Williams, is a well known knowledge keeper and very active in the Quw'utsun community. She is a Hul'q'umi'num' teacher, is very knowledgeable about her community and has a deep affinity for all things nature. She was an elder at Vancouver Island University in Duncan.

Genevieve Singleton, has been a keen plant lover since childhood. She is especially interested in ethnobotany. She is a nature interpreter and biologist, sharing her love of nature throughout the Cowichan Valley and further afield for many years.

Philomena and Genevieve enjoy doing plant presentations together.

Doors open at 6:30 pm with the General Meeting starting at 7:00.

Greetings Fellow Gardener,

The  bright winter aconites have cheerfully popped up in Victoria gardens,  reminding us that Spring is soon to follow. In the meantime, members of  the Vancouver Island Rock and Alpine Garden Society have begun preparing  for the much anticipated annual VIRAGS Spring Flower Show.

This year’s is a one-day only event, on Sunday, April 6 in the Mary Winspear Centre in  Sidney. 

A  well-established, juried event, the Show features exhibits of rock and  alpine, woodland, bog and succulent plants. As well, there are displays,  vendor and seed sales, donor prizes, a silent auction and tea service.  Speciality plants grown by club members will be available for sale  throughout the day. The Victoria Cactus and Suculent Society is having our annual Spring Sale and Show May 9-10,  2025.  It will have a huge selection of tender and hardy cacti, tender  and hardy succulents, alpines, choice perennials, pottery and growing  medium.  We will also have a juried table of outstanding specimens grown  by our members.
